Romania, a state in the European Union, was questioned in its achievements and their goals. Romania has been made of fun of for its abilities, Romania wants to show that they aren't the ones to be reckon with. The Chief of Staff at the Romanian Presidency Cristian Diaconescu believe 2 aspects are the most important: Harmony with European standards and values and also Romania's integration process. Building institutions and changing fundamental values are their main goals. Romania has a part in the EU in making decisions. It's not their role in EU that's a problem but internal. The markets of Romania do not extend out to the world, while other eastern and European countries do. There's is open. 80% of Romania's trade is with the EU that's a safe market. Majority of the Romanian people think that their country is just fine that there's no reason to develop even more. Romania's interests are to diversify its economic areas and transfer political collections it has with the others into economic growth. A potential field to what Romania needs is infrastructure from a investor and the Chinese are interested. It can't be avoided on any map of project related to the energy field in the region. Delimiting the continental platform between Romania and Ukraine in the Black Sea had benefited Romania due to discovery of natural gas. This discovery puts them at the European level but they still have a problem of corruption. A suspension had taken place on the national referendum and also a concern with the European Commission about the rule of law. Romania isn't perceived with integrity anymore and many countries are against its actions. Justice was a weak point for Romania and Diaconescu believes in 5 years they will have 100% credibility in EU.
To me, Romania seems like its been going through a lot of trouble. 5 years does not seem to be enough for them. Perhaps if China can help, one of the leading economers of the world, Romania can get back on its feet and not become a laughing stock. Many countries don't believe they can do it. If justice and law is a problem it'll take more than a year for it to adjust and change again. To me, it'll take much much more than just 5 years. They'll need everyone's effort and be more strict to gain its title back.
This articles ties in its struggle to gain its title back in the European Union. The struggles they have are injustice actions and corruption. There actions such as having most markets into the Eu causes problems for them and other countries. Other countries would not want to get involved in their political issues if they don't change. It's important to Romania because this is how they'll get back into the EU and respected and not laughed at.
