'The Enlightenment and The Ghana Culture Day" by Kofi Akosah-Sarpong

Ghana Culture Day starts on March 14 every year. To some the day is to promote the mainstreaming of the culture in national development. The day is to restore Ghana's cultural values that were demeaned during the colonial era and by the elites. Their values haven't been into policy making yet. The purpose of Ghana Culture Day was to raise Africa's essence, but it's not and making Ghana (Africa) the only country dominated by foreign development paradigms. The author, believes this day should be of inhibiting the values of the culture and influence policy makers to use aspects of the culture for developments for the enlightenment movement. Ghanaians have their tradition food, clothing (kente cloth), and festivals on this day and any other day, yet they should use their culture and their beliefs to bettering their economy and advance into a better future. Their fear of witchcraft and other outlandish cultural practices should not get in the way. The Ghana Culture Day contains traditional food, exhibitions, and performances, but also should use this time to inhibit the cultural values to produce progress.
I never knew of such of a day. I didn't realize that Ghana was in a situation. It's depressing how they're controlled for foreigners rather than by themselves. Their belief has caused them to not progress further. This day should include discussions of their cultural values in order to ensure a better future instead of staying in the same state. I agree they should restore their values and show to others what was demeaned that it's better now. Ghana Culture Day is a fascinating idea and should improve each time.
Ghana Culture Day displays their culture by their way of dressing, food, and the festival that take place on this day. Even though they're at rough times as their beliefs had stopped them from progressing it's their culture still to show on this day. Ghana Culture Day is important for them to show to others that what others believed before is different now that they shouldn't demean them. Their traditional food, clothing, and beliefs is what makes them them on this day.
